I would like to start by giving a very short introduction to WelDays, for people who might’ve forgotten or don’t know.
What’s WelDays?
WelDays is an annual event of some kind that celebrates the holidays. Since 2020, we’ve styled our website for the holidays, and have even rolled out new features. Here’s what we’ve done so far.
2020
In 2020, we styled our website to reflect the holidays, and eventually turned that into a recurring thing with every month having a different theme until v2’s discontinuation in March 2021.
2021
This was a somewhat different year. Throughout November, we allowed users the option of an on-screen snow flurry. But then! Cesium comes out late on November 30th, 2021. Cesium was the first custom styled version that set the standard for Muncie.
Now that we’re done with that, well, we wanted to start
Celebrating Cesium’s First Anniversary
Cesium was the first version to be completely separated from third-party stylesheets like Bootstrap or jQueryUI. The version passed many milestones in the five months it was live. Things like buttonless navigation, many unique points of view on style, and even the first few steps of Initial Muncie’s flagship feature: favorite comics. Cesium rekindled the fire for ComicServer in many ways, and it deserves recognition today as one of the best points in ComicServer’s short history.
2022
2022 has been a rejuvenation of almost everything for a lot of people all around the globe. Even our old friend war couldn’t take a day off, especially on February 24th. That said, 2022 has also proven to be one of the most successful year for Wel3Com. We won even won a Replit Creator Fund award in July for Muncie 2. ComicServer’s gone from v5.3 to v6.4 in the span of a year, with a consistent one version per month, or multiple versions to catch up (December may have 0-2 versions). Presswave (this) and Passband (a simple radio app) were released in July along with the discontinuation of a number of dated ComicServer services like cse, Legacy, and GO. As we phase out the year, we wanted to look back on the year and re-experience what a marvelous year it was.
The Purpose
We wanted to write this post to both reminisce on this year, explore some Wel3Com traditions (or WelTraditions if you’re into that), but most of all tell you what we have in store for the annual WelDays “events”. It’s quite simple, really, we have a theme (selectable on the menu accessible under “Make a Theme” in the edit menu) called “WelDays 2022” that changes the background to a warm teal/green and starts a flurry of snow like last year.
