What?

TuneGram is custom-built to be an overall simpler and better Apple Music client than Apple Music for Mac or iTunes for Windows. Built on an entirely new user interface than ComicServer’s MuncieUI, called GramUX, TuneGram is more average user-focused and takes advantage of all the screen real estate it is presented with.

When?

TuneGram is a concept, but if all goes to plan, it will launch using GitHub Pages on February 29. GitHub Pages is an option for this service because TuneGram uses a completely front-end-only platform.

Where?

TuneGram will be first available on a GitHub.io domain before making more drastic changes like a custom domain. It will therefore be completely open-source on GitHub.

Why?

TuneGram was made as my first 4th generation service. Here’s a quick summary of what that means:

  • 1st generation: ComicServer, Among Us
  • 2nd generation: Presswave, Passband
  • 3rd generation: dispatch, ComicServer Daily
  • 4th Generation: TuneGram, ???

TuneGram also serves as the sucessor to ComicServer.

How?

A combination of front-end tools. Apple MusicKit JS, HTMX, and good JavaScript skills.

A couple other things

Unlike ComicServer and many other services, TuneGram will not have a release schedule. Commits will be logged on GitHub. Also, music data and other copyrighted content are supplied by the Apple Music API (or MusicKit). An Apple Music subscription is currently required to play music and browse catalogs.
